Gender statistics in decision-making bodies - 17th interim report

On 4 March 2024, the Government Council adopted the 17th interim report on gender statistics in decision-making bodies.

The government welcomes this encouraging result, and Yuriko Backes, Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity, stressed that "we are moving in the right direction, but we should not drop our guard. The representation of women at all levels, including in decision-making positions in all sectors, is essential to achieving equality and crucial for more sustainable and resilient economic growth".

The Minister of the Economy, SME, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles, added that "balanced participation of women and men in political and economic decision-making is a government priority. An egalitarian society, which should be the norm, has many societal and economic advantages. In this respect, I am delighted with the progress made in the representation of women in decision-making bodies, but it is essential that we continue our efforts, both in public establishments and in private companies".

On 31 December 2023, the total proportion of women on the boards of public institutions was 38.89%. During the first census on 31 January 2015, the same rate was 27.41%.

The proportion of women representing the State on these boards was 42.09% at 31 December 2023, compared with 30.34% at 31 January 2015.

In private companies, the proportion of women representing the State is also continuing to rise: 35.06% at 31 December 2023 compared with 24.69% at 31 January 2015.
