The organisation of the EMEC in Luxembourg is part of the government's efforts to promote, in collaboration with the Luxembourg Convention Bureau (LCB), the Grand Duchy as a host country for organising international professional events and thus developing congress and business tourism. Located at the heart of Europe, Luxembourg boasts a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities for hosting meetings, conferences and events.

In his speech at the European Convention Center Luxembourg (ECCL), the Minister Delegate for Tourism, Eric Thill, stated: ''Sustainability is playing an increasingly important role in the professional events sector'' Organisers and visitors are looking for events that respect the environment and place greater emphasis on the principle of social and ecological responsibility. We are responding to this demand with our 'Green Business Events' initiative, which aims to promote environmentally-friendly business events and support sustainable solutions."

The business events segment includes conferences, congresses, conventions, exhibitions, trade fairs, corporate events and special events. The sector generates income for local businesses in a variety of sectors: convention centres, events and communications agencies and, above all, the hotel and catering industry.
